About
"Imagem da Semana" is an e-learning tool created in 2010 at UFMG’s School of Medicine (FM-UFMG) and it consists of a weekly online presentation of a case report related to an image in a self-directed learning environment. Identifying the correct answer allows access to the case discussion and a review of its theoretical content. All material produced is freely accessible at the project’s website, hosted at FM-UFMG (www.medicina.ufmg.br/imagemdasemana). A judging committee composed of professors from FM-UFMG selects and rewards the best case with a publication in the journal Revista Médica de Minas Gerais (RMMG), in the image section, created specially for this purpose.
Currently, the "Imagem da Semana" website has an average of 5,500 accesses per month, resulting in about 110,000 accesses from October 2010 to October 2013. In two surveys, conducted in 2011 and 2012, the website content was considered "good" or "very good" for undergraduate teaching as well as being a means of updating theoretical content. The success of the program was acknowledged by the Family Medicine Strategy of Belo Horizonte, which introduced it as a continuing education method in their program, as well as by Unimed - BH, that also uses the cases on its own website for associated physicians.
